SSE Vision and Mission
Driven by a belief that entrepreneurship is a powerful catalyst for change, SSE aims to empower more individuals with the skills to create a better future.
We see a world where every Australian is empowered with the skills to overcome barriers to employment and education.
SSE’s mission is to build a nationwide culture of entrepreneurialism and shared prosperity.
As a national, independent not-for-profit organisation, SSE’s mission is to provide access to and foster the development of innovative work-relevant and knowledge-based skills training and learning pathways.
What we do
SSE is a not-for-profit social enterprise that transforms lives by partnering with government, industry, and community organisations to deliver tailored, culturally safe and sensitive, community-centred entrepreneurship education to diverse communities around Australia.
Driven by a belief that entrepreneurship is a powerful catalyst for change, we aim to create a world where every Australian is empowered with the skills, capability, and learning opportunities needed to overcome barriers to entrepreneurship, employment, and education.
Who we serve
Our programs support, uplift, and empower many of the diverse communities Australia cares for, including First Nation Peoples, those in regional and rural areas, young people, women and girls, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities.
We believe that entrepreneurship is a powerful catalyst for change and our goal is to unlock the potential and talent of more people from diverse backgrounds to create a bigger, brighter future, for all Australians.
How we do it
We recognise that it takes a village to raise an entrepreneur. We know diverse teams, mindsets, and partnerships create better performance, collegiality, economic advancement, and practical outcomes.
Alongside our team of expert Educators and Facilitators, we co-design and co-deliver in-person and online programs in collaboration with a trusted network of local community members, cultural mentors, and business owners. This ensures we meet learners’ unique needs, wherever they are in Australia, and that our workshops and impact endure long after a program delivery is complete.

SSE Strategy 2023-2026
Sydney School of Entrepreneurship (SSE) is proud to share Strategy 2023-2026: Building a nationwide culture of entrepreneurialism and shared prosperity. Driven by a belief that entrepreneurship is a powerful catalyst for change and framed by our values – Excellence, Equity, Innovation, Diversity, and Collaboration – Strategy 2023-2026 is focused on improving outcomes for more Australians.
Our Story
In 2016, the NSW Government catalysed Sydney School of Entrepreneurship with cornerstone investment to build an unprecedented collaboration between all 11 NSW universities and TAFE NSW.
The impetus came from a 2015 Commonwealth Chief Economist research paper that showed startups created 1.44 million jobs across Australia between 2006 and 2011.
SSE was a key plank of the networked innovation ecosystem the NSW Government built under its strategy to embrace innovation and drive jobs growth - supporting a culture of startups and entrepreneurship in Australia.

The history of SSE's Building J
The SSE building, started its life as Sydney’s Technical Bootmaking School in 1940. In 2017, life returned to Building J when SSE took over the lease of the building, continuing the legacy of teaching innovation, business growth, creativity, and craft.
