SSE Vision and Mission
Driven by a belief that entrepreneurship is a powerful catalyst for change, SSE aims to empower more individuals with the skills to create a better future.
We see a world where every Australian is empowered with the skills to overcome barriers to employment and education.
SSE’s mission is to build a nationwide culture of entrepreneurialism and shared prosperity.
As a national, independent not-for-profit organisation, SSE’s mission is to provide access to and foster the development of innovative work-relevant and knowledge-based skills training and learning pathways.

Our Story
In 2016, the NSW Government catalysed Sydney School of Entrepreneurship with cornerstone investment to build an unprecedented collaboration between all 11 NSW universities and TAFE NSW.
The impetus came from a 2015 Commonwealth Chief Economist research paper that showed startups created 1.44 million jobs across Australia between 2006 and 2011.
SSE was a key plank of the networked innovation ecosystem the NSW Government built under its strategy to embrace innovation and drive jobs growth - supporting a culture of startups and entrepreneurship in Australia.

The SSE building, started its life as Sydney’s Technical Bootmaking School in 1940. In 2017, life returned to Building J when SSE took over the lease of the building, continuing the legacy of teaching innovation, business growth, creativity, and craft.
