The Sydney School of Entrepreneurship is proud to announce the upcoming launch of its newest Program, Rethinking Your Financial Future. Through successfully attaining a grant from the NSW Government’s Investing in Women Program, this newly developed short course will contribute to the priorities outlined in the NSW Women’s Strategy (2018 – 2022), advancing women's role, status, and contribution in our communities.
SSE recognises the significant challenges faced by young women in regional and remote Australia in terms of financial literacy. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 59% of women feel unprepared to take any financial risk, are reluctant to create their own venture due to competing family commitments, and lack of financial knowledge and role models.

“Financial literacy is an important element in building women’s economic empowerment and financial security, and providing pathways to tackle challenges that can create financial dependence and long-term financial disadvantage. Rethinking Your Financial Future is designed to help women build their financial acumen, create support networks and find role models to help boost their confidence in pursuit of financial independence.”
SSE is proud to partner with financial literacy expert Julia Weber who is a renowned advocate of empowering young women, especially within regional communities, as well as an official ambassador for the Women NSW Financial Literacy Toolkit. Her work in this field was publicly recognised in 2020 when Julia was nominated for NSW Young Woman of the Year. When discussing the importance of financial literacy among women in regional areas Julia says
“Learning financial literacy from a young age will open the world to young regional women; revealing abundant doors that can lead to a prosperous future. This unique Program will deliver increased levels of financial independence amongst participants, who will emerge less reliant on those around them to make critical life decisions, both now, and in the future.”
Participants in the Rethinking Your Financial Future short course can expect engagement and collaboration with like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds and different walks of life. With a combination of face-to-face and online delivery, the flexible course connects networks of women and helps build meaningful and supportive relationships.
Participants will learn to identify their money mindset and develop their own personal definition of financial independence. They will also emerge confident and ready to implement strategies to bolster their income through various career paths such as freelancing, working remotely, consulting, entrepreneurship or developing that ‘side hustle’ so many of us seek to pursue.
Recognising that effective financial literacy education should start in one’s early years, this Program has two streams of enrolment: one stream is an 8-week program that has been designed specifically for females still at school aged 15 – 18 years, and another stream is a compressed 4-week program delivering content focused for young women aged up to 25 years and no longer at school. With support and partnership from the NSW Regional Development New England and North West, SSE encourages women within these age groups to register their interest now to secure their fully sponsored position in the Program.
Endorsed by the UNE SMART Region Incubator, SSE is proud to launch this exclusive Program, empowering young regional women to participate in the workforce through entrepreneurial skills development and financial literacy.
