Ruth Davys

Facilitators & Experts

Vision Keeper, Giilangyaldhaanygalang

Ruth Davys is a Wiradjuri woman. Ruth was raised in Uranquinty, went to school in Wagga, and is part of the Albury-Wodonga community. She is a leader and advocate, an active community member, successful businesswoman, wife, and mother to three young children, Jake, Thomas and Tacoola-Ruth.

Ruth is highly experienced in community engagement; she’s a connector who is sensitive to community needs and understands community protocols. In 2016-2018, Ruth led a series of workshops and cultural days to inform over 800 Aboriginal peoples of the National Disability Insurance scheme (NDIS) throughout Far West NSW, Western NSW and Murrumbidgee, so these Aboriginal people can make the right informed decisions.

Ruth is the vision keeper of Giilangyaldhaanygalang, a 100% Aboriginal owned Wiradjuri language education business teaching Wiradjuri language, Culture and Heritage.

She has held a diversity of positions over many years including Chairperson of the Riverina Murray Regional Alliance, Lecturer in the Wiradjuri Language, Culture and Heritage graduate certificate at Charles Sturt University, and the National Indigenous Australians Agency co-design voice to Parliament Regional Representative.

A Current Petaurus Education Group board member & La Trobe University Community Research Assistant, Ruth also enjoys visually expressing the stories of her community and ancestors. She has told the story of the Albury Wiradjuri community through the installation of Tracks, the country-designed carpets that lay at the MAMA building in Albury; the story of the Bogong Moth is a permanent sculptural display on the Yindyamarra Cultural Trail; and the story of the Bunyip adorns the walls of the Albury Library Museum.
