Outcome-based and tailored to support lifelong learning, Startup Success for Women provides you with the essential skills and mindset needed to overcome some of the most common barriers to early business growth and success.
Whether you’re at the start of your entrepreneurial journey and have an idea you want to explore, or you have recently started a business and are looking to build your customer base or better understand how to leverage networking or access funding, Startup Success for Women will help power up your next steps.

Course Content

Introduction: Being an Entrepreneur
This pre-course module is designed to help you develop an understanding of the entrepreneurial process and mindset, and awareness of Australia’s small business and startup ecosystem.

Module 1: Small Business Startup
In this module, you’ll explore and identify your business’ problem statement. What problem (eg social, environmental, practical) is your business solving? You’ll also evaluate your idea to help improve and refine (or redefine) your business goals, and identify potential customer segments.

Module 2: Test Your Business Idea
In this module, you’ll develop an understanding of the Lean Canvas business model and how this model can be applied to a business idea. We’ll also cover testing and validating your business idea to help determine whether it meets the minimum requirements for a viable startup.

Module 3: Building a Customer Base
In this module, we’ll investigate marketing approaches and help apply a marketing strategy suitable to your business idea or business. We’ll also cover approaches to determining and utilising networking opportunities to expand your business network and prospects.

Module 4: Startup Costs and Revenue
In this module, you’ll gain an understanding of what’s needed to actually get a business up and running, including ongoing costs and pricing structures. You’ll also produce your own Lean Canvas business model for your business or business idea.

Module 5: Finance and Funding
In this module, we’ll look at the key differences between common business structures and help you to identify the appropriate structure for your business or startup. We’ll also investigate startup finance landscape and key funding models.

Module 6: Present Your Small Business Startup
The fun stuff! In the final module, you’ll compose and present a professional pitch to ‘sell’ your business idea to potential investors.
